In my continuing exploration of healing, I am totally convinced that true health is much more than the absence of an abnormal laboratory finding; it is even more than optimal mind-body integration. Health, in its essence, is a higher state of consciousness. For thousands of years, the great Vedic seers have proclaimed that the purpose of attending to the body is to support the state of being known as enlightenment. In this state, our internal reference point shifts from the ego to spirit, and we recognize (American spelling) that the knower, the process of knowing, and that which is known are the same.

Although we experience our bodies as solid, they are more like fires that are constantly being consumed and renewed. We grow new stomach linings every five days, for instance; our skin is new every five weeks; each year, ninety-eight per cent of the total number of atoms in our bodies is replaced. Ayurveda gives us the tools to intervene at this quantum level, where we are being created each day anew. It also reveals how freedom from sickness depends on contacting our own awareness. Bringing it into balance, and extending that balance to the body.

In this book, Eckhart Tolle uses a simple question and answer format to reveal our true nature. It makes the book simple to read and easy to comprehend. The book is best read perhaps a few pages a day to reflect upon the words and experience the truth of what has been read. Eckhart holds your hand like a guardian angel and takes you step-by-step towards leading a life free of suffering and angst [my translation: A feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one about the human condition or the state of the world in general]. It explains how we create our own pain and constantly make the mistake of identifying with our minds, thinking that is who we are. And the true beauty lies in grasping a new meaning each time you read the answer to a particular question or life situation.

Eckhart Tolle is a contemporary spiritual teacher who is not aligned with any particular religion or tradition. He writes with the timeless and uncomplicated clarity of the ancient spiritual masters. And imparts a simple yet profound message: There is a way out of suffering and into peace. The author of Stillness Speaks and Practicing the Power of Now. Eckhart Tolle travels widely and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia.
